Pitys Withamii Simulated Forest Test & the Craigleith Fossil Tree

Based on the Craigleith fossil tree and evidence gathered by Dr Christopher J. Cleal and imagined in 3D by Steve Dey, ThinkSee3D. Produced for the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. It shows a forest of Pitys Withamii trees, 330 million year ago. This is 90 million years before the dinosaurs emerged and at that time when there were no flying insects. Monstrous 2.5m long millipedes were the apex predators on land! Built using Blender 3.1 and Unreal Engine 5.02.

Rutland Ichthyosaur (Sea Dragon) Concept Reel

This public engagement concept reel shows ThinkSee3D’s various 3D works for the Rutland Ichthyosaur project. Including the photogrammetry scans and an animation of a digitally reconstructed live Ichthyosaur with some prey animals (all created and animated by Steve Dey founder of ThinkSee3D). This reel is an early proof of concept for a bigger project to create an animated story about the life and death of this Ichthyosaur.

Nespsawershefyts Coffin Animation for the Fitzwilliam Museum (original cut)

From a CT scan of the original ThinkSee3D extracted the dozens of separate 3D components of this ancient Egyptian coffin and then animated them to show how the coffin was constructed. Component function is far more apparent in an animated film compared with a static image. It is also a more engaging way to show how the coffin was constructed. Undertaken for the Fitzwilliam Museum (part of the University of Cambridge).

Fin Whale Limb Photogrammetry Scan & 3D print

A half whale skeleton to be displayed at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery in Carlisle was missing it’s forelimb so ThinkSee3D was commissioned to 3D photogrammetry scan an extent Fin Whale forelimb from Cambridge Zoology Museum and then 3D print a replica to be used to restore the Tullie House specimen.
